dx COR is a chemical product designed for the complete removal of hard mill scale from hot-rolled metal surfaces. This product is a complete alternative to abrasive metal processing (sandblasting, blasting or other costly processes).
dx COR is sold in liquid form and, on contact with the metal surface, acts as a scale-dissolving and removing agent.
When working with Corten steel, it is important to remember that all sheets up to 2 mm are cold-rolled (Corten A) and no hard scale forms on their surface, and all sheets thicker than 3 mm are hot-rolled (Corten B) and have scale that must be removed so that Corten steel oxidises evenly and forms a patina (rich orange colour).
Scale is a real headache for Corten steel manufacturers. It is bluish-black in colour and usually no thicker than 1 mm. The scale layer is formed in the factory during hot rolling and the melting of the metal itself.
When working with Corten steel, the problem is that all end users want this steel without a protective layer so that it can oxidise and create the desired rich orange colour tone and be smooth, scale-free and even.
If this hard layer is not removed, Corten steel oxidises very slowly outdoors, the patina layer peels off spontaneously in various places (breaking through the scale layer), the colour darkens and the whole product looks dirty (because many scale stains remain). Complete oxidation of the entire product outdoors takes several months and even then the product does not look as beautiful as it would if it had been correctly treated at the initial stage.
Today, the most common method of scale removal on the market is abrasive treatment (sandblasting, blasting, grinding, etc.). These solutions are expensive, inconvenient and inefficient and often damage, bend or otherwise harm the product itself.
Therefore, the scale remover dx-COR developed by LineaCori is – as most more demanding manufacturers confirm – quite a groundbreaking innovation. This product makes it possible to process and prepare Corten steel for end use without large financial and labour costs. Naturally, this solvent can also be used by the end consumer who buys a Corten steel product from an inexperienced manufacturer and wants the product to be completely smooth.
When working with dx-COR products, carefully study the work process and safety requirements and read all instructions and recommendations.
